Crucial interventions – Morbid illustrations from the 19th century surgery

Crucial Interventions is a collection illustrating the principles and practices of surgery in the 19th century, bringing together hundreds of morbid and fascinating illustrations. These illustrations created by doctors documenting their medical histories bear witness to an era that has seen a radical transformation of the practice of surgery. These images are from the Wellcome Collection, and were published in the book Crucial Interventions by Richard Barnett (Thames and Hudson editions). Not bad to live in the 21st century, right?
