An incredible collection of zoetropes transformed into animated GIFs

The American Richard Balzer has spent nearly 40 years collecting zoetropesphenakistiscopes and other optical toys, gathering an impressive amount of these vintage animations based on retinal persistence. To enable the greatest number to enjoy these animated illustrations invented in the 1830s, Richard Balzer had the idea of publishing his collection online, but also to create animated GIFs of his best zoetropes and phenakistiscopes.
