Documenting the objects confiscated from the Mexican immigrants

The American photographer Thomas Kiefer used to work as a janitor at the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, in the town of Ajo. Here, he started documenting the many objects confiscated from illegal Mexican immigrants, arrested while trying to cross the border. These items considered as non-essential are then simply seized and thrown away. This series of meticulously classified objects, entitled El Sueno Americano, or The American Dream, pays tribute to these people that destiny pushes to abandon everything for the hope of a better life…
