“Found Film” is a project by photographer Chris A. Hughes, who has over the years developed an obsession for the forgotten films in the old cameras. His adventure began by chance when buying an old Verascope Richard from 1914, he fell on photographic plates dating from the first World War taken by a French soldier! Since then, he collects old cameras (he has more than 300, the oldest dating back to 1847) in search of forgotten films… Chris A. Hughes discovered some true photographic treasures… Simply amazing!

Birds Of Aperture – Retro Photography and Taxidermy

The series “Birds Of Aperture” by American photographer Paul Octavius, based in Chicago, is a strange and surreal mix of retro photography and taxidermy, literally giving wings to old cameras collected over the years… Inanimate objects come to life and become rare species in the eyes of this birder / photographer.

Japan in 1900s – The Human-Powered Transportation

Paris in 1900 / Paris in 2013 – A photo comparison

We had seen pictures of Paris in the 1900s. But what happens if we compare them to Paris today? An excellent series of photographs that puts face to face pictures from Paris in 1900 and Paris in 2013! The french Rue89 website compared the old photographs from the collection of Albert Kahn, to the modern Paris by finding the exact locations and angles of shots. I also recommend these other photographs of Paris at the beginning of the last century: “15 Colour Photographs of Paris in 1914” and “49 color photographs of Paris under occupation 1940-1944”

In France, we mainly known Fruity Loops and Lucky Charms cereals, these colorful cereals and completed with mini-marshmallows that we were fans in the 80s (it’s not that we are no more fan, but the few small packages sold on the web today are pretty expensive…). But in the United States, this trend of colored cereal and mini marshmallows, if possible with a huge licence on the box, was much bigger than in France, as evidenced by these cereal boxes from the 80s: Zelda Mario, Pac-Man, Gremlins, Ghostbusters, Barbie, Batman, Star Wars, and so on…

After “Professions for Women of the Future imagined in 1902” and “Anti Female Suffrage Propaganda from 1900“, Here is a fine example of sexism in advertising from a 1960 advertising for Volkswagen! In short : “Women are soft and gentle, but they hit thing. If your wife hits something, it doesn’t hurt you very much. VWparts are easy to replace and cheap. [...] It may make you furious, but it won’t make you poor”. The rest of the text is even worst…
